What I’m Doing Now

Here’s what’s alive for me these days; the work, questions, and calling that keep this moving forward.

Published Integrity-Based Advocacy

I have spent the winter rigorously editing research papers and translating clinical insights into accessible, actionable writing for leaders.

Since late 2025, my focus shifted from structuring my philosophy on advocacy to actively publishing about it. I'm currently rolling out a comprehensive, multi-part blog series on Integrity-Based Advocacy. Over the next several weeks, I will be publishing pieces about how we can pursue justice and organizational health without relying on the tools of toxic advocacy.

Developing Trainings & Keynotes

With the writing and research now accessible here, I've shifted focus toward application and am currently building out specific keynotes and training packages designed for nonprofit boards, government agencies, nonprofits, and social service providers. I'm also working toward developing these evidence-based, trauma-informed frameworks into structured courses for practitioners.

Clinical Practice & Academic Work

In parallel with this new platform, my day-to-day commitments remain rooted in direct practice. I continue to teach, mentor, and serve on the board at Pacific University. I also maintain my counseling and coaching practice, working with individuals navigating trauma, wellness, and burnout. Staying engaged in the classroom and the clinic is what keeps the rest of this work honest and grounded.

Building this site (and ideas)

I’m pouring energy into www.donschweitzer.com — not just as a bio, but as a platform for ongoing thought, writing, and conversation. I’m refining my philosophy on toxic advocacy (you know the PDF we sketched), integrating it into a coherent business model, and experimenting with how ideas can shape practice.

Academic & institutional engagement

At Pacific University, I continue teaching, mentoring, and serving on a board. I still love being in classrooms and helping students wrestle with real problems. I also stay involved in curriculum design, program evaluation, and institutional strategy in social work and community engagement.

Counseling & applied practice

In parallel with academic life, I maintain a counseling/coaching practice — working with individuals, exploring holistic wellness, and weaving mind-body, trauma-informed, and advocacy work together.

Writing, speaking, & public philosophy

I’m drafting essays, critique pieces, and short reflections — thinking through what “toxic advocacy” looks like, how institutions should shift, and how individuals (especially those marginalized) can flourish. I’m also open to select speaking invitations or collaborations that align with these themes.

"The end is reconciliation; the end is redemption; the end is the creation of the Beloved Community. It is this type of spirit and this type of love that can transform opponents into friends."
